im back at the field i was at a few nights ago. i walk up to the barn and see some horses. i pet one and hop in the saddle on his back. im riding him around the yard waiting for somebody. the other persons horse tries to run away so i stretch my hand out and send the horse some calming thoughts. the horse stops. i probe the reins, find the right frequency, and pull the his reins to my hands.   im sitting there waiting......

*jump*

im riding my horse down a street ive been on before thinking how funny it is that im doing that......

*jump*

im going down a trail on the horse with somebody. we come to a stop on a little rise where i can see really far into the distance. the vista in front of us is a 3D representation of part of my map. i start explaining to the other person about the dreamscape mapping that ive been doing and how its progressing.  off to the left i can see some mountains that ive been to quite a few times before and im explaining some of the different dreams ive had there to the other person.  at one point im tell them about one spot at the top where i love to just sit still and take in the view.

Hey Sam.

So you're dream mapping too! Cool. I haven't been doing many drawings myself, however I have been paying alot of attention to the importance of "location" in my own dreaming.

Is the Dream mapping you talk of connected with the work of the russian group Dreamhackers? I recall that they emphasise that particular regions on the map of one's dream world, can be hard to penetrate beyond. Have you found anything like this in your own experience?

I like this image from your dream where you see a 3D representation of your own dream map. What form does your actual dream map take? How do you add to it?

I'd love to plug some mapping functionality into the dreams here, just not sure exactly which form it should take. Partly because each person's dreamscape is so individual, and the real places that they borrow from are not exactly as they would appear in real life. For example, one location in a dream can often blur/transit into another quite different location. I wonder how one would represent this?

One dream. Lots of questions. So, you're on the trail. Give me a picture of the surroundings.

nick,

yea, i first heard about dream cartography over on Ld4all a few weeks ago.  somebody made a series of long posts about the Dreamhackers.  supposedly, some of the people are still active and have their own forums.  i downloaded a dream mapping program from them but i dont like it that much so i havent used it.

http://magic-su.net/eng/tag/first-gate/

well right now my map is pretty much just a couple of pieces of paper with writing on them.  i have my childhood homes/neighborhood close to the middle and the rest of the dreamscapes i have remembered radiating out from there.  by the title of each dreamscape i have little shorthand notes about dreams ive had there, people ive met or know there, things ive done there, how i got there etc.  there are little doodles in between most of the dreamscapes.  like you, im more interested in figuring out how all of these places interconnect.

im barely scratching the surface but its been rewarding already.  from just trying to connect the dots to different dreamscapes ive remembered dreams ive had years ago but never wrote down. i like it, it feels right.

i tried making my own map with a graphics program.  the problem i ran into was i was trying to get too detailed and the program really isnt set up to allow the depth i want.  id start out general but then id remember all of these little details about a dreamscape and id bog myself down in the minutiae.  an idea i have, but dont know how to implement, is doing a layers of the onion type map.

have each dream journal as a sub-forum.  so my DJ "sam's Dreaming Tree" would be a sub-forum.  the different threads in my sub-forum would be titles of the different dreamscapes i go to.  ie: childhood home thread, old neighborhood, portland like city, military complex, middle east, outerspace, underwater......   i would post the dreams that take place in those dreamscapes in the corresponding thread.  when i click on one of the threads, the map window changes to show a map of whatever thread i clicked on.  clicking on the map would change which threads are shown to the left depending on where on the map you clicked.

in the margin to the right of the threads would have the map, under that my calendar of dreams, and under the calendar a box with tags pertainng to my dreams.

"home base" for the map would be a star field and in the middle would be an icon for earth and another icon for an alternate earth.  youd also need to have two icons representing zooming in and zooming out so you could cycle through the map.  clicking anywhere around in space on the map will change the view of the sub-forum to your threads  about outerspace dreams.

an icon in a specific thread bar would let you open and collapse the posts in that thread for a cleaner look and ease of use.  there would be options for listing the dreams in that thread alphabetically, chronologically,  and by type of dream(lucid, non lucid, prophetic....)  the map window will change its picture to just a star field. the calendar would list only dreams that take place in that dreamscape.  the tags list would change to just show the tags of the dreams in that dreamscape.

clicking on the earth will change the view of the sub-forums to your threads pertaining to dreams that take place on earth.  the different threads would again be your different dreamscapes that take place on earth.  the map would change to show a view of all of the continents.  the calendar would change to only show dreams that took place in those dreamscapes.  the tags would change to only show tags pertaining to the dreams in those dreamscapes.

going deeper in the onion.  for me, most of my dreams take place in the u.s. so when i click on the u.s. in the continent map, the threads would list the different dreamscapes that i go to that take place in the u.s.  the map would then be a picture of america.  id like an option to set icons around the map to mark where my dreamscapes are.

so id be able to put an icon in oregon, one in ohio, one in florida.......   clicking on the different icons would bring you to the threads and dreams that take place in that specific dreamscape.  the map that shows up in the map window would then have to be something that i made since it would be my version of that city/town/countryside.  how id go about making that and then being able to put it in my DJ sub-forum i have no idea.  a map making program wrote specifically to be able to be uploaded to my journal?  theres a program somebody already made that i posted a link to but i dont think id be able to make a map with it and then upload it to my DJ.

so once i have my version of say portlands map up for example, id want to be able to put icons around that map as well.  theres a theatre i go to alot there that is around the corner from a mall/subway/trainstation type place.  id be able to click on the icon on top of the theatre and then a map of the floor plan of that building that i made would pop up in the map window and the dreams that took place in the theatre would be off to the left.  inside of the map of the floor plan id want to be able to put icons around designating different objects, people, rooms that are significant to me.

say we had something like here. this id be able to go to the main dreaming forum and search for other dreams that took place in a dreamscape by the tags.  lets take florida for example.  if dreamlife had mapped his tampa location, i could compare it to what i remember about that dreamscape visually instead of just by reading about his experiences and see how similar/dissimilar they are.  seeing his might make me remember more details about that dreamscape that i didnt bring back with me.

thats my bright idea anyway.  too bad i dont know the first thing about programing so im not able to do it.

Sam, a brilliant idea! I can see it, too; very easily and the great progress it can very well deliver.

I have to share with you now; years ago, when I was 15 and younger had these "dream travels". There was a moment when I was part of thhe darkness, or within the darkness, when a voice"more knowing", informed me to use my imagination to "see" or bring about the horizon. I was sorta scared at first while things seemed to go a million miles a second; a calming sorta overcame me, and within the love and happiness the imagination kinda hollighaphically overlayed above for me to see. Its fun to read your journal of how you would like to create your dreamscape, and it reflects my own recall of the stars on the map, showing location, meaning and usefulness for all.

Someday i'll share more about "dream travels" its real good, and Sam I love your insightfulness. Please continue sharing your ideas and progress, its important, I just know it is. Imagine the posibilities of CBI(computer brain interfacing). I have a wonderful link to 60 minutes about CBI. It shows aplications in waking life, although the dream interface of how you describe would be a jackpot for the next wave of lucidity and astral, dreaming and intefacing with our dreams to heal and increase psi abilities, as CBI is thought form.
