Racism and Hispanics

I'm being told something about other countries in South America (other than Brazil, I mean). Someone tells me that these people (there was a really specific word to refer to Hispanic South American cultures which pretty much excluded Brazil from the group and united them racially. A bit racist, really) are different. The person says that if you dress a white guy in a suit, he really looks nice and distinguished, but if you dress a Hispanic guy in a suit he will be no different from before. I'm weirded out at hearing this. I mean, what the heck...

So was the word used to demean a group of people from Hispanic South American countries?

Have you visited Hispanic parts of South America, outside of Brazil?

Sidenote: I'm planning to travel to South America next year - hoping to see Brazil too :)

Yes, it was a racist word, though I have no idea now exactly what it was, as it doesn't seem to be any known to me IRL.

And no, never left Brazil. When you visit, make sure you come to São Paulo :)
