My mother and I had come to visit a family we knew. It was a rich, apparently powerful family with a lot of tradition. Still, it seems that other than visit, we had helped them somehow. The family was quite numerous, and most members were old. We were now leaving the house, saying goodbye to the ones we met on the way as we left. A huge family book was opened in a specific page on the beginning. I remembered seeing another book like that, but hadn't noticed that specific page. Looking close, there was a row of small square portraits picturing couples or small groups, all of which had a small, somewhat cryptic caption that referred either to the person's place on the family or their personality, and sometimes both. I remember seeing something like "The Grandchildren" or "The Elders", among others. We had to "greet" all the portraits, which we did by kissing the pictures and saying goodbye.
I continued down the hallway and said goodbye to a jolly old man that nodded to me. We proceeded towards the door when this old, wrinkled lady smiled at us. She was so happy that we had come. She said that since we had come, she was going to do two things to help me. The first one was a tight hug. As she hugged me, she asked me to think about two numbers, as apparently they would do me some good, or bring good luck (I believe she said it was a "blessing"). I wondered what for, maybe lottery? It took me a few seconds, but I finally settled with numbers 3 and 29. She let go of the hug and smiled. I notice my cousin M. - he has the family book on his hands and seems to be reading the captions on the family pictures, apparently memorizing them. I'm about to leave when I notice mom was still inside. I find her staring sadly at the wall over a fireplace. I tell her we have to leave but she gloomily refuses.
