I'm home. I'm walking downstairs, then into the kitchen. I can hear my mother talking, then a young male voice I don't recognize. I step into the dining room and my mother is at the table, pretending to be calm but clearly nervous. She was wearing fancy clothes and makeup and avoided looking at me. The light is on, but the kitchen nearby is pitch-black. There's no one else around. I find it strange and notice that the male voice had come from the kitchen. I walk around the table and ask "Who's there?", to the darkness, then turn to my mother. She nervously moves a finger near her mouth, telling me to be silent, and winks. My father walks in normally, unaware of anything. We go out of the kitchen and she explains me what happened.

It turns out she had used some kind of computer program that somehow brought a ghost into our home. It was like a virus, but the evil ghost was now messing up with her computer and somehow manifesting itself outside it and speaking to her. I found it kinda freaky, and she seemed to be terrified of it. Still, she had to go out, so we didn't talk much about it. I went up to my room to wait until she came back, so we could investigate, but I soon started panicking over the idea of ghost in the house. I was afraid of leaving the room and doing pretty much anything. At some point, I wanted to change clothes but was panicking so bad I couldn't even do that. I'm not sure how much time passed, when mom finally arrived. I asked her to show me her laptop and we'd see what was going on.

We sat with it and she explained it was an e-mail she had received. I opened it and we started watching what seemed to be a teenage TV series. It was about a group of six friends, a white guy who was the male lead and his girlfriend (also white), a black couple and an Asian couple. I took a mental note of it (almost lucid moment), telling myself to remember this later, and how it looked like an 80s-90s series, with the politically-correct cast. The main character looked a lot like Zac Efron and was a charming, outgoing guy. The episode stopped suddenly, and we were back in the windows desktop, where I could see files being moved around. A voice that sounded like the main character began to come out of the computer, and I suddenly realized everything - there was no ghost. It was a hacker. The guy had used some kind of trojan file to invade the computer, copy files, speak through it and somehow scare my mother into thinking there was a ghost. I disconnected it from the internet and started up a virus/spyware scanning software. I was angry for getting so worked up for nothing.
