This was a really long dream, the first half of it is mostly a blur now. I was in this old mansion that worked as a hotel, as well as some other things, in specific rooms and areas. I remember meeting people from college and school there. I'm not sure what I was doing at first, but I had a specific (or a series of specific) tasks which led me all the way over the mansion, so I got to know pretty much all the place. Except, that is, for some rooms which were locked up. I never gave it much thought when I saw them, but later I would notice they actually were, for some reason, surrounded by pasted newspaper articles on the walls, as well as some magazines, other pictures and drawings. No one mentioned them, either, so it pretty much was forgotten.

At some point I tell some people I'm headed somewhere, but someone stops me and says I must go up and elevator. Me and a friend get into this really old elevator, which leads us into some rooms I hadn't seen. We meet a guy who supposedly worked at my college, and I am finally given a special artifact. This was one of those long rulers engineers and architects use, but it would give its wielder powers. These were similar to the manga series Kekkaishi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kekkaishi) - While holding the ruler, I could, either pointing with it or just by will, select an area and "draw" on the air an outline around it. A white light would form a line following my will/move and I would target and select the object. When that was done, I could destroy it or make it disappear, temporarily "storing" it, and place it somewhere again later. Some kind of real-life copy + paste.

I was now at the ground floor, and I had a sort of conscience that this whole thing was some kind of game. I supposed I had finished the main story, and now I had loose ends to tie up. I remembered there were characters whose stories weren't quite over. I start following this one guy around. He was a suspect on something. We go to an older, uglier part of the hotel, and he enters one of the newspaper rooms. I'm not sure what happened to him, but out of the room burst a small (2-3 feet tall) humanoid creature. It was mostly bald, with crooked arms, teeth and monkey-like movements. It looked like a deformed human, and it was quite angry to see me. The little Gollum screamed and attacked me. I quickly paralyzed and disposed of it in seconds. Inside the room, I found a jewel, which I knew also had powers and was quite valuable. I had to find the remaining jewels - and possibly, that was what the guy from before was after. Before leaving, I also notice something else - the newspapers seemed to follow a specific theme, though what it was, I can't remember for sure now.

I was now at the ground floor again, and my next target was this rich old woman. She was talking to someone in a somewhat shady way. Suspecting she was up to something, I start to follow her upstairs. Again, we enter a dilapidated, dark area. She continues upstairs but I stop in the middle of the way... another newspaper room was nearby. This one had a clear theme - Batman. Tons of newspapers cuts with drawings of Batman. I hold onto my ruler and approach the room. The door slams open and out of it leaps another one of those scrawny humanoids. It screams and waves its arms around. At that moment I realized it was the creatures who made the newspaper collages - this one had a small pathetic batman cowl. I dispose of it and head into a room right beside the one I was in. I notice part of one of the walls was falling apart, but give it no further notice - there was another creature in the Batman room!

I sneak out of hiding and aim inside - I could see the creature wailing and waving its arms in front of a computer, which seemed strangely new and tidy, compared to the whole setting. I couldn't get the creature from here, but I could get the computer. I select it and make it disappear. The creature screams and starts to run for the corridor. I run to the back of my room, aim at a table in the corridor and materialize the computer again. The creature looks at it, surprised, but my distraction didn't work on time - I was seen. The creature jumps at me and, with its little feet on my chest and arms, tries to hit and scratch me. I hold it back. At this moment, the POV changes to third-person, and for some reason I'm a blond woman (I have been myself all the time). I manage to target it and kill it, and the POV comes back to normal and I'm myself again.

I'm about to leave the room and resume my search for the old woman when I notice the broken wall falling apart like dust. It leads into a luxurious (and surprisingly clean) museum room. Here are exposed three or four jewels, which glisten with magic. These were supposedly long lost. I collect them, proud and happy at myself. I notice there's a square hole on the floor, leading into another similar museum area. I remembered being there before, as it was an open area in the Hotel. I head for the door and wake up.
