I
am being told of a sad event occurring on land belonging to a Native
American community. The incident may have to do with land use, and the
imposition of outside values, however these details are not so clear -
rather it is the nature of the response from nature that is the focus
of attention.A Native American woman
seems to confide as narrator, however there are no words. Rather I am
looking at an image, unravelling what occurred. I don’t have to think
about the details; the story plays itself out for me. I see a deserted,
sandy landscape, with round rocky hills to the west. It’s a quiet area,
but this is a part of a larger section of land belonging to the Native
American people, and they keep watch on it.My
attention is drawn to five birds at the center of the image. These seem
like birds that are local to the land, but they are also special
somehow. I understand that they arrived here near dusk, in a manner
which was seen as being of great significance by the people of the
community.
The birds had come as witnesses; witnesses to the wrong that these people were being subjected to. The people of the community had seen how the birds remained by this spot - and knew that their appearance held a deeper meaning. They seem extremely grateful that their plight has been recognised. If this recognition comes only from the forces of nature, they seem to think that this itself is cause for more.
And then a change... I become aware that the image I've been observing is a "real picture", and that the native native american woman whose been telling the story is transferring the image from her hands to mine. It is a hand drawn image she created herself - and it is now in my own hands to look after.
As I think about this, I am taken over by gratitude. I am imagining myself meditating with the light of dawn, bringing this image into focus, growing a vision from it.
As I look closer at the colours of the image, I notice that the birds look like spirit birds, with unusual bodies and necks. I notice also that that each wears a blue/red stone necklaces.. The stones radiate an energy that’s both calm, and that also seems to shimmer slightly.
Feelings:
Wonder, Trust, Responsibility
First Associations:
- Last night, I was browsing a favourite website of mine called “Star Knowledge”. One of the last things I did was visit a page about a Hog Farm Protest being carried out by the Yankton Sioux Tribe.
This seems to have strong links to the nature of my dream.
- The image that the woman gave me felt like it had travelled “across the seas”, from one land (USA) to another (Australia). It had a tangible quality that I woke still aware of.
Reality Check:
The dream had the qualities of a real experience, so I reentered the dream, to find out more.
I was in a relaxed mood, and found it relatively easy to focus on the image of the birds, and my question of finding out who they were. I woke from my next dream to the words, “The Scale Masters”, as well as the word “Octave”. My first association being that they brought something visible only at a small scale, out onto the larger playing field.
I also had another dream involving a long, drawn out comment from a teacher, which showed signs of mildly racist attitudes directed at native american people.
It wasn't so strong that it was blatant, but because the message contained levels of ignorance, and came from a teacher, it still hurt.
