I'm on Swanston St. We're supposed to be heading into the city.

It seems I'm taking a class. Only my students aren't in primary school - almost everyone's my age. They're people I know too. Carolyn is here - an Asian girl I used to know from high school (she was in the acceleration program with me).

We jump on the tram, and things are a little disorderly. I'm trying to get people's attention - tell them where we're supposed to be. At the same time, I don't wanna be too "pushy". These are my peers after all.

We get off the tram, and it's like we're at the park along that same road. Everyone get's off the tram, and starts walking off on their own.

I want to call them back - but begin to realise I don't even know where I am supposed to be.

Somehow I end up in a large room. It has the atmosphere of a professional development session. There are these Asian guys taking the workshop.

I see the words POLT clearly written up on the board. A reference I automatically understand to relate to the Victorian Governments "Principles of Learning and Teaching".

There are lots of students sitting at the tables. Everyone seems active and involved in what's going on here.

At first I'm thinking that it's not quite what I had planned, but it's gradually dawning on me that we've ended up in just the right place.

I have three months to go until my teaching course is over, and have been very unsure about going straight into a school in 2009. There's alot of committment involved in a job like teaching. Once you're in a school, you're there for a year. You can't travel about from place to place as easily, and that does scare me a little.

I've been contemplating all kinds of things - replacement teaching (which pays well enough, but means that you shift from school to school and never really settle with a school), and travelling (probably don't have enough money anyway) in particular.

This dream had a surprising clarity to it. In the beginning of the dream, I start off feeling very confused. I'm supposed to take a class, but I have no idea where we're supposed to be.

Yet by the end of the dream I find resolution. I come to a workshop where they're talking about the POLT or Principles of Learning and Teaching.

Why are these important? When you go for a job here in Melbourne, and you do an interview, employers or schools are interested in how you address the POLT (essentially a range of different criteria describing necessary principles for teaching effectively).

I haven't been at all active in preparing for a job (I've been plagued by indecision), but I woke knowing what this dream was saying. Start preparing and thinking about how you can address the POLT criteria, because that's what's ahead - you're going to apply for jobs in the next few months.

The next dreams of the night all seemed to reinforce that same message - in them I was preparing resumes, etc. And in a way that made me feel fairly good about my future prospects, even if I did know that there would be a fair degree of work involved.
