Today I was working on developing a small task to help students in my class develop inferential comprehension skills. I decided to look at character traits - asking students to identify personality traits that define a character in a story, and subsequently using evidence from the book to show how this was demonstrated within the narrative (another character's spoken response to them, the character's appearance in any pictures from the story, etc).
Searching for language that would help students to describe these traits, I came upon this resource:
It seems to me that choosing a key character from a dream and trying to identify their key characteristics/personality traits could be a fun way of working with a dream in more depth. We tend to do this automatically when we describe a character in a dream, however I feel that in searching for evidence from the dream narrative that supports our initial impression, we could gain other insights into the dream's meaning.
If you wanted to understand a character's appearance in your dream, how would you go about it?
